Residential Services

Fencing and retaining walls for your home

You've worked hard for the home you've got and you want a team that treats it the same way. We pick up the phone, we turn up when we said we will and we treat every property like it's our own. From the first call to the finished job, you'll know who's coming and what's happening next.

Residential Fencing

A good fence does a lot of work. It marks your boundary, protects what's behind it and shapes the way your property looks from the street.

We build the lot, including timber, Colorbond, aluminium, PVC, pool fencing, spear top and colonial picket fences. Every fence gets the same attention to detail, whether it's a privacy boundary out the back or a feature fence out the front. Straight lines, clean cuts, finishes that hold up, that's the standard.

Residential Retaining Wall

As much as it may seem like it, a retaining wall isn't just a nice piece of landscaping. It is what’s holding back the slope above it, and often carrying the weight of the garden, the driveway or even part of the house itself.

Most homeowners don't realise this until the wall starts to fail, when small shifts can turn into cracks, drainage issues and structural damage that's hard and expensive to undo.

That's why every Synergy retaining wall is engineered to the site, not dropped in to look the part. We arrange the soil testing, get the holes signed off by the engineer and document every stage along the way. We'll talk you through the right build for your block from the start.

What else we offer

Landscaping

A new fence often highlights how tired the rest of the yard has become. We can help bring the surrounding space up to scratch, including turf, garden beds, planting, pathways and the practical landscaping that makes a backyard feel finished, not just fenced.

Garden makeovers

For bigger projects, we can take the whole garden back to a blank canvas. That means clearing what isn't working, reshaping the layout, and rebuilding it around how you actually want to use the space, whether that's kids' play areas, entertaining zones or something low-maintenance.

Painting, inside and out

Whether it's a quick interior refresh, a full exterior repaint, or finishing a new timber fence with the right stain and protective coat, we can take care of the lot. Same crew, same care, same standard of prep and finish from inside out to the boundary line.

What happens next

1. You get in touch

You can fill out the form, give us a ring or send through an email. We'll need your address, contact details and a quick sense of what you're after.

2. You hear from us within 24 hours

We get back to every enquiry within a business day, every time. One of the team will reach out, confirm what you've told us and ask anything else we need to know.

3. You get a preliminary quote

Using your details and a tool called Land Checker, we'll send through a preliminary quote within 24 hours so you've got something to weigh up straight away. It's not the final number, but it gives you a real sense of what your project looks like.

4. We pop around for a site visit

We'll book in a time that suits you to come out and walk the property in person. It's as much about meeting us face to face as it is about the work, because you'll have a team on your property over the coming weeks and you should feel comfortable about that.

5. You get a formal quote

Even if you've already got a clear idea of what you want, in the quote we'll usually include a couple of options to weigh up, so you can see how different materials affect the look, the longevity and the price. No hidden variations, no fluff, just the real number for the work you decide on.

6. We lock it in

If you're happy with the quote, a 35% deposit secures your spot on the schedule. We'll confirm your install dates and arrange for the materials to land on site before the team does.

7. Before we start

A day or two before install, you'll hear from us with a quick reminder and any final details. The team knows exactly what's going where, so there's no second-guessing on the day.

8. Install day

The team arrives, gets stuck in and keeps you in the loop along the way. If anything pops up on site, we'll flag it with you before it becomes a problem, not after.

9. Handover walkthrough

Once the job's done, the project manager walks the property with you to check every detail. If something's not right, we sort it then and there, because that's how it should be done.

Your home, treated like our own

Your home is your place of peace and you need to be careful who you let in. We take that seriously, treating every property like it's our own from the first phone call through to the finished job.

That means picking up the phone when you ring, turning up when we said we would and walking the property with you before any work begins. It means the same standard from the office team to the crew on site, with no one disappearing once the deposit lands or cutting corners for the sake of time saving. And it means finishing every job with the same pride we'd want on our own property, because the difference really is in the detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your quotes free?

Yes, both the preliminary quote and the formal on-site quote are free of charge. We don't charge a call-out fee for the site visit and we don't take a deposit until you've decided to go ahead and locked in your spot on the schedule. The only money that changes hands at the quoting stage is your time and we know that's worth something too, so we won't waste it with a sales pitch. We'd much rather show you the work and let it speak for itself. If you decide we're not the right fit for your project after the visit, that's completely fine, no hard feelings and no follow-up calls trying to change your mind. We'd rather build the right job for someone than the wrong one for everyone.

Is the preliminary quote the final price?

No, the preliminary quote is a starting point so you've got a real sense of cost before we've even visited. We send it through within 24 hours of your enquiry, using boundary information pulled from a tool called Land Checker and the details you've given us. The formal quote, sent within a few days of the site visit, is what we both work from. The two numbers are usually close, but the site visit lets us confirm access, materials, ground conditions and anything else that might shift the build. We'd rather give you an accurate final quote based on what we've actually seen than a fast guess that needs to change later. That's the whole point of the two-stage process, no waiting in the dark and no surprises when the formal number lands.

Do I need council approval for a retaining wall?

Yes, if the wall is over a metre high, or if it supports a structure or load above it, you'll need council approval before we can build. We'll let you know at the site visit which category your job falls into and what approvals are needed. The process usually involves an engineer providing specifications and certifying the build, which we can recommend if you don't already have one. For smaller walls under a metre with no load above them, the build can usually proceed without going through council, depending on the location and what's behind them. We'll be straight with you either way, no guessing and no surprises later. If approvals do need to be sorted, we'll give you a realistic timeline so the wait doesn't catch you off guard.

Will my retaining wall need ongoing maintenance?

No, a properly built retaining wall shouldn't need ongoing maintenance for decades. The drainage, footings, geotextile and backfill all matter more than the surface materials and that's where we focus our attention during the build. If something does shift down the line, it's usually because the drainage wasn't done right in the first place, which is why we take the prep work seriously upfront. Get those basics right and the wall does its job quietly for the next twenty years or more. We document every stage of the build with photos too, including the holes, the posts, the drainage and the backfill, so if there's ever a question down the line about how it was built, we've got the answers. That's how a proper build should be done, not just so it looks the part on day one, but so it holds up for the long run.

Will my pool fence meet Australian standards?

Yes, every pool fence we build is compliant with the current Australian standards (AS 1926). We'll walk you through height, gap, gate and non-climbable zone requirements at the site visit, so there are no surprises at certification time. Pool fences are one of the most heavily regulated jobs we do and we'd rather slow down and get them right than push through and have to come back to fix something later. We can also help with the practical side, like positioning the fence to maintain views into the pool area, picking the right gate hardware and making sure nearby landscaping won't compromise compliance. If you need a certifier organised at the end of the job, we can recommend someone we've worked with before. That way you've got one less thing to chase up at the finish line.

Can you help manage the conversation with my neighbour?

Yes, we can help in a few ways, depending on how involved you'd like us to be. We'll quote on the work itself and walk you through how dividing fences typically work in Queensland, including what's usually split between neighbours. If it makes things easier, we can meet you and the neighbour on site at the same time to talk through the build, so everyone's hearing the same information from us at once. The actual cost conversation is usually best handled directly between you and the neighbour, but we're here to answer any technical questions either of you have. We've seen enough boundary fence projects to know how to keep things straightforward and we'll never pressure either party into a decision that doesn't sit right. The goal is for everyone to be on the same page before any deposit is paid.

Do you repair existing fences?

No, we focus on full replacements and new builds rather than patch-up work. By the time we'd assessed the existing fence, sourced matching materials and rectified a few sections, the cost often gets close to a full replacement anyway, with none of the longevity. A new build also lasts considerably longer, which is usually what homeowners actually want when they reach out about a repair. Beyond that, patching one section of an old fence tends to highlight how tired the rest of it is, so it's rarely the satisfying fix it sounds like upfront. If you're not sure which is the right option for your property, we're happy to talk it through on the phone first. There's no point booking in a site visit if a quick call can give you a clearer sense of where to go next.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Synergy is fully licensed under the QBCC and carries the appropriate public liability and contract works insurances for residential work. Our current licence covers projects up to a set value, which we can talk through if you've got a larger build in mind. We're happy to share the paperwork at the quote stage if you'd like to see it and we'll always make sure you've got copies of anything relevant for your records. It's part of being a proper, accountable business, not something we treat as optional or an add-on. If anything ever did go wrong on site, you're covered and so are we. That kind of cover is what separates a proper contractor from someone doing it on the side.

What other services do you offer beyond fencing and retaining walls?

Quite a few. Beyond fencing and retaining walls, we also offer landscaping, garden makeovers, painting, decking, gazebos and patios, block walls, garden beds, tiling, rendering, granny flats, pool houses, screening, slat fencing, concrete works, turfing, drainage and driveways. If it's part of the outdoor space, a structural extension of the home, or the practical work that ties them together, chances are we can handle it. The biggest advantage is that everything stays under one team, one quote and one point of contact, rather than coordinating different trades for different parts of the same yard. Bundling extra work into a fence or retaining wall job is one of the most common ways our clients use us, with pricing broken out by line item so you can choose what to go ahead with. The simplest way to find out if your project's a fit is to mention it when you first reach out, ideally with a few details about what you're picturing.

Can you take care of an entire backyard or front yard transformation?

Yes, full landscaping is one of the bigger projects we genuinely enjoy taking on. We can take a yard back to a blank canvas and rebuild it around the elements that matter to you, including turfing, drainage, garden beds, concrete pathways, decking, screening, retaining walls and the fencing that defines the space. The whole project runs under one quote and one project manager, so you're not chasing different trades for different parts of the same job. We'll usually walk you through a few different layout options at the quote stage, so you can see how the space could come together before any work begins. The order things get built in matters too, especially when drainage, retaining walls and turfing are all in play, and that's something we plan out properly during the site visit. By the time we finish, the yard should feel like one cohesive build, not a list of separate jobs stitched together.

Do you build structural extensions like granny flats, decks and gazebos?

Yes, our structural work covers a broad range, from concrete pathways, driveways, slabs and drainage through to decking, gazebos, patios, granny flats and pool houses. These often turn up as standalone projects, but they're frequently part of larger landscape builds where the order of operations matters. For decking and patios, we'll talk you through timber versus composite options, freestanding versus roof-attached structures, and how the space works with the rest of the yard. For larger builds like granny flats and pool houses, there's usually a council approval process involved, which we can guide you through and coordinate around. Lead times are generally longer than a fence or retaining wall job, often a few months from quote to handover depending on approvals. The earlier we can get involved with structural projects, the smoother the design, build and handover tend to be.

What about painting, tiling, rendering and slat fencing?

Yes, all four are part of what we offer, either as standalone jobs or as part of larger builds. Painting covers internal jobs, external repaints and fence painting, including the right stains and protective coats for new timber installs. Tiling covers everything from pool surrounds to patios and pathways, with materials and grouts chosen for the wear and weather they need to handle. Rendering pairs well with block walls, retaining walls and new structural builds, giving them a clean finish that holds up to the elements. Slat fencing is one of the more design-led products we install, working as a feature fence, a privacy screen or a divider within a yard, with options ranging from contemporary aluminium to timber-clad. The order of works matters with these too, since they usually go in after the structural build is complete, so we'll factor timing into the quote upfront.
